华人在服务业内的很多行业中其实都不是受欢迎的消费群体，尤以华人聚居区以外的地方为主。很多华人是反对美国小费文化的主力军，出于对一些服务不优质的店铺（以餐厅为主）的厌恶继而反映到整个小费文化上。
大多从国内来的华人会认为小费不重要，给20%就算顶格比例了。其实不是这样的，这只是对堂食餐饮业而言。比如你去一家美甲店做一小时的指甲，如果这家店本身是良心老板，物美价廉，美甲师忙了一小时仅收你$20大费（美甲费），那你按照”20%小费算对优质服务的嘉奖“理论，这一小时只给她小费$4。那这个美甲师可能一小时加上小费只能赚到$15左右，一天连做8小时也不过$120。那是不是店家只有抬高服务价格很多才能养得起员工？店家如果本身的理念是提供"物美价廉的服务“的话，那此刻就要被逼着改变了。
我认为小费的基准线是：餐馆堂食15%-20%不等；点外卖，给送餐员$7；美甲、理发、按摩一小时是$10，半小时$5，遇到大费特别低的良心老板，可以再多给些以表示对服务人员的感谢，毕竟这个钱进不到老板兜里，而老板为了回馈顾客已经降低收费了，做足了他单方面能做的最多的。
我是做餐饮的，其他行业的小费标准只是我来美国20年总结的一点个人看法。
