How many Thai restaurants are there in the U.S.?

As of January 2026, there are 8,190 Thai restaurants in the U.S., mainly concentrated in coastal markets, major metro areas, and metropolitan regions with larger Asian populations.

Where are Thai restaurants located in the U.S.?

The distribution of Thai restaurants in the U.S. shows clear regional differences.

California (CA) on the West Coast is one of the most concentrated markets for Thai food, with large numbers of Thai restaurants in cities such as Los Angeles, San Francisco, and San Diego.
In the South and Southwest, major Texas (TX) cities such as Houston, Dallas, and Austin have seen continued growth in Thai restaurant count, supported by population growth and increasingly diverse communities.
On the East Coast, states such as New York (NY) and Florida (FL) are also important Thai restaurant markets due to their international consumer base and strong tourism demand.

By contrast, the Midwest and some inland states have relatively fewer Thai restaurants overall, although Thai dining still maintains a stable presence in major cities such as Chicago, Minneapolis, and Denver.

  • States with larger Asian populations, such as California, Washington, and Oregon, tend to have higher Thai restaurant counts.
  • Tourism-driven cities such as Miami, Orlando, Las Vegas, and San Francisco also show relatively high Thai restaurant penetration due to strong visitor demand.
  • The higher the level of urbanization and international connectivity, the more concentrated Thai restaurants tend to be, reflecting the continued growth and popularity of Thai cuisine in the U.S.
